So, I just watched Flight of the Living Dead. I’ve got to say, for something I picked up for 2 of my English Pounds, it ruled. Yeah, it’s not going to win any awards for either originality *cough*Snakes on a Plane meets Executive Decision via Shawn of the Dead much *cough* or being deep and meaningful, but if there’s a ‘we had a shedload of fun watching this movie and ran out and told all our friends’ award, this ought to get it. The premise is simple. There’s a cryogenically frozen lady in a tube in the cargo bay of a normal, bog standard economy fligh unbeknownst to the passengers above. When the plain hits turbulence, she gets out, now unfortunately she happens to be infected with some kind of T-Virus thingy that goes crazy and zombifies her when an overzealous guardian blows her away…cue fast spreading infection, lots of gore and an increasingly mental set of set pieces…including among others a zombie nun with no legs, an asian businessman zombie who spends the whole movie trying to get loose from his seatbelt and a zombie executing a midair attack on a fighter jet.
It’s not clever, in any way shape or form, nor is it particularly believable if you stop mid-film and do a head count and figure out that you’re introduced to far less passengers than there are eventually infected, but it doesn’t matter, because it’s so fast paced, over the top and genuinely amusing that it’s hard to care it’s got plot-holes you could lose your family in. Check it out. Since Fopp have now got it in for 2 pounds, it really won’t kill you (and eat you) even if you hate every minute.
